Rowesville Meeting with Secretary of Agriculture and Majority Whip

The Center’s CEO, Dr. Jennie L. Stephens, was in Rowesville, S.C. on May 24th, 2021  meeting with farmers about the USDA’s new loan payment program for socially disadvantaged Black and minority borrowers. Dr. Stephens talked about heirs’ property issues while addressing those in attendance including U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and James E. Clyburn, Majority Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives. At the invitation of House Majority Whip Clyburn, the country’s top agriculture official visited a family farm in Orangeburg County as the federal government begins to roll out a new debt forgiveness program aimed at helping Black and minority farmers.
