Community Liaison Leadership Institute
To expand upon our outreach efforts and to fulfill our strategic goal of community building, the Center developed a core group of 20 community leaders to serve as community liaisons in the Clubhouse/Geddisville areas of Dorchester County. These liaisons were developed in response to heirs' property owners' request to have individuals who are not attorneys in the community to serve as advocates and guide them through the process of addressing their heirs' property issues. These liaisons will ensure that heirs' property owners and their surrounding communities are made aware of issues that affect heirs' property owners and participate in planning and development activities which directly impact their communities. To prepare this group to serve in this capacity, the Center conducted a leadership institute.
Heirs' Property Resource Fair

As a broad outreach mechanism, the Center held an Heirs' Property Resource Fair. This resource fair was offered to the public free of charge to heighten awareness of the issues presented by heirs' property ownership and celebrate the cultural heritage associated with heirs' property.
The activities at the resource fair included: storytelling and skits centered on heirs' property ownership;
a farmers market; discussions about housing rehabilitation or homeownership; and a seminar on the importance of developing family trees and researching family history. The renowned artist, Jonathan Green, was in attendance and served as the judge for a coloring contest of youth who drew his painting, "When Time Was Young." Jonathan and the winner are shown in the picture to the right.
