PRO BONO “LEGAL” Opportunities (Attorneys and Charleston School of Law Students) – We need attorneys to help us draft simple Wills at our FREE Wills Clinics conducted across our service area throughout the year. The Clinics are held on Saturdays from 10 am – 3 pm in schools, community centers and/or churches. The Center makes hourly appointments for each client to allow for plenty of time to complete a simple Will.
Templates for simple Wills are provided to the pro bono attorneys and each one is assigned at least one Charleston School of Law student to assist. Roving students also help the client go over the Will prep questionnaire prior to their sitting down with the attorney. This practice has been enormously helpful in making the client(s) feel more comfortable and prepared for the actual appointment.
The Center and volunteers have helped draft more than 565 simple Wills since 2009 – giving people peace of mind.
INTERN and FELLOWSHIP Opportunities – The Center welcomes the opportunity to engage undergraduate students and Law School students in our work. Several recent law school graduates have completed internships with the Center. Their works has included: researching and filing legal documents for the Center’s Attorneys Josh Walden and Hope Watson; assisting with the drafting of simple wills in Wills Clinics; assisting clients with genealogical resources to help them create their family trees and attending numerous outreach and educational activities.
WILLS CLINIC CAN BE FUN AND THE VOLUNTEERS ARE ACES!
